Three Quotes I’m Mulling

This one has been mistakenly attributed to Lee Segall and earlier, excluding the first sentence, to a San Diego-area jewelry store.

“It’s possible to own too much. A man with one watch knows what time it is; a man with two watches is never quite sure.”

I like this one because I have a small collection of watches and often wonder why I need more than one. (I wonder how this YouTuber feels.)

And, here are two good ones from author Brad Stulberg:

1. “The worst way to be happy is by trying to be happy all the time. People don't realize the emotional burden they carry by absorbing an ethos that says you should always be positive and upbeat — even though sadness, boredom, and apathy are inevitable parts of the human experience.”

2. “Unrelenting self-discipline takes you to the top of your game. But, without caution, it is a habit that can also take you down a steep slope toward burnout.”

‘80s Music by the Numbers

According to Spotify, as of last week, Culture Club’s “Karma Chameleon” has been played 545,117,743 times. Or,

• 364 million more times than Bruce Springsteen’s “Glory Days”;

• 31 million fewer than Bruce’s “Dancing in the Dark”; and,

• Almost 111 million more times than Kenny Loggins’ “Danger Zone.”

Remembering Randy Meisner

The Eagles are my favorite rock band and I love all their albums if not all their songs.

Near the top of my list of favorites is “Take It to the Limit”* from the 1975 album “One of These Nights”, and sung by Randy Meisner, a founding member of the band. (*Played more than 100 million times so far on Spotify.)

Meisner died last week at 77. From his obituary in the New York Times:

In a band of egos, where the internal power plays and boozy blowouts seemed as common as string changes, the soft-spoken Mr. Meisner, an introvert who grew up on a farm in Nebraska, was never one to jostle for the spotlight.
